PEF Medical Foundation was built on grief and driven by purpose. We exist because dialysis access in Cameroon is not a medical problem — it is an economic one. We solve the economic problem so the medical one can be treated.

Dr. Gerard Elonge-Fobia is a U.S.-based physician who lost two close family members to Chronic Renal Failure in Cameroon — not because no treatment existed, but because they could not access or afford dialysis. He watched them die from a preventable outcome.
That experience transformed him. He did not build a charity. He built an institution — one with legal registration in two countries, a formal board, financial controls, four departments, and six strategic objectives designed to ensure that every patient who needs a session gets one, regardless of what they can pay.
A Foundation Operating Across Two Continents
PEF Medical Foundation operates through two formally registered chapters — one delivering care in Cameroon, the other mobilizing resources in the United States. Both are legally accountable, financially transparent, and governed by a shared constitution.

A Cameroon and Africa where no patient with Chronic Renal Failure is denied life-sustaining dialysis due to poverty, geography, or lack of medical infrastructure. Access to treatment is a right, not a privilege.

Two Family Members Lost to Kidney Disease
Dr. Gerard Elonge-Fobia loses two close relatives to Chronic Renal Failure in Cameroon — not from lack of a treatment, but from inability to access or afford dialysis. The experience becomes the foundation’s reason for existing.
Personal OriginConstituent General Assembly — Buea, Cameroon
Founding members convene at Homeland Residential Complex, Mile 16, Buea. The Constitution is adopted, the seven-member Pioneer Executive Board is elected, and six strategic objectives are formally ratified.
Cameroon Chapter FoundedLegal Registration — Republic of Cameroon
PEF Medical Foundation is officially registered under Law No. 90/053 of 19 December 1990 on Freedom of Association in Cameroon — granting full non-profit legal status and authority to operate.

PEF Medical Foundation USA is formally incorporated as a Texas nonprofit corporation. The IRS issues Employer Identification Number 42-2594611 and the Texas Secretary of State issues Certificate 806 597 945.
US Chapter FoundedGovernance & Operations Manual Adopted
The Board formally adopts Volume I of the PEF Medical Foundation Governance & Operations Manual — establishing financial controls, committee structures, code of ethics, and performance metrics.
Governance EstablishedFirst Hemodialysis Center — Buea, South West Region
Capital campaign underway. The Foundation is raising funds for its first fully operational dialysis unit — a milestone that will transform PEF from a coordinating body into a direct care provider.
In ProgressIRS 501(c)(3) Tax-Exempt Status
Application in progress. Approval will make US donations fully tax-deductible and unlock eligibility for major institutional grants from US foundations and government programs.

Free community screening campaigns, patient welfare support, nutritional counseling, psychosocial care, and epidemiological research on kidney disease in Cameroon.

You Donate
Securely via pefmed.org in XAF (Cameroon) or USD (US chapter). All donations are acknowledged and receipted.
Finance Committee Reviews
The Finance & Audit Committee approves allocations. Dual-signature controls are verified before any transfer occurs.
Transferred to Cameroon
US funds are transferred to the Cameroon chapter under a formal inter-chapter agreement — documented and reported at every board meeting.
Patient Receives Care
Funds are deployed to dialysis sessions, medications, screening events, or equipment — all tracked against the program budget with impact reported to donors.
