Hemodialysis
Access
Establish and operate state-of-the-art renal units to provide affordable dialysis sessions for patients across Cameroon. A Chronic Renal Failure patient needs dialysis 2 to 3 times every week to survive. PEF removes the financial barrier that stands between them and that machine.
Operational dialysis chairs in Buea. Machine maintenance protocols. Pharmacy and consumables management. Patient intake and weekly session scheduling.
Medical
Subsidization
Mobilize resources to subsidize the high cost of renal medications, laboratory tests, and consumables for low-income families. The cost of dialysis doesn’t end with the session — it extends to medications, lab work, and supplies that most patients cannot afford privately.
Full or partial coverage of medication costs for qualifying patients. Lab test subsidies. Emergency Medical Fund for urgent interventions. Financial eligibility assessment process.
Preventive
Screening
Organize community health campaigns for early detection of hypertension and diabetes — the two leading causes of kidney failure in Cameroon. Dialysis keeps patients alive. But catching the disease before it destroys the kidney is what stops patients from needing dialysis in the first place.
Blood pressure and blood sugar screenings at markets, churches, schools, and community centres. Referral pathways to specialist care. Health education on kidney-protective lifestyle changes.
Capacity
Building
Facilitate training of local nurses, dialysis technicians, and nephrologists in modern renal care standards. A sustainable renal care system cannot depend on external expertise indefinitely. PEF invests in the humans who will deliver care long after any single donation is spent.
Dialysis machine operation certification for nurses and technicians. Nephrology protocol training. Partnerships with international medical institutions for specialist mentorship.
Technical
Innovation
Invest in modern medical equipment and sustainable water treatment systems for safe, effective dialysis. Safe dialysis is technically demanding — it requires machines that meet clinical standards, water that has been purified to remove contaminants, and a maintenance regime that keeps both operational.
Procurement of modern hemodialysis machines. Reverse osmosis water treatment installation. Preventive maintenance schedules. Medical equipment supplier partnerships for parts and upgrades.
Patient
Advocacy
Provide nutritional counselling and psychological support to patients and families navigating chronic illness. Living with Chronic Renal Failure is not only physically demanding — it reshapes the entire life of a patient and their family. PEF addresses the whole person, not just the kidneys.
Personalised nutritional counselling for patients on dialysis. Psychological support sessions. Social worker referrals. Patient rights education and self-advocacy training.

Funding the Mission
PEF Medical Foundation’s US chapter (EIN 42-2594611) exists to mobilize the financial resources that make all six objectives possible on the ground in Cameroon. Three ways it does that:
Fundraising & Donations
Individual donors, diaspora giving campaigns, and corporate sponsorships in the United States fund dialysis sessions, medication subsidies, and screening events in real time.
International Partnerships
The US chapter builds alliances with hospitals, universities, NGOs, and medical equipment manufacturers who provide funding, expertise, equipment donations, and volunteer clinical staff.
Grant Writing & Applications
A dedicated grants pipeline pursues US and international foundation funding to provide multi-year financial stability for objectives that require sustained investment — particularly equipment and workforce training.
